Guide to Starting a Legion Riders Chapter

Outlines of Procedures for Starting a New Chapter in your Post:

  • Get the interest of a few members of your Post. It only takes a few to get the ball rolling.

  • Obtain approval of your post membership to sponsor your group.

  • Contact a Chapter or two in your Department to let them know you're starting a new Chapter, and to get information on how their Chapter is set up.

  • Frame your starting by-laws from this template. Contact other Chapters in your Department to obtain their by-laws to ensure you are aligned with the rest of your Department.

  • Obtain a convenient evening meeting date and time from your sponsoring Post. Best to allow a few weeks to help stir interest in joining your group.

  • Advertise your intention to start start a new ALR within your Post and any neighboring Posts. A brochure is available to download here  (40.00 KB)

  • Hold your first meeting. Vote on officers, your by-laws, and your dues structure (typically, $1 per month). Download a sample first meeting agenda  (30.50 KB)

  • Complete a Chapter Data Form  (132.24 KB) to announce the formation of your new ALR! Congratulations!

Although this program is run from the Post level, it is still a good idea to send "Courtesy Letters" to your District and Department officers to keep them aware of your progress. Visit the National Region Riders website for answers to frequently asked questions regarding purchasing patches, rockers, etc. or any other questions you may have about the ALR.
